ADITI THORAT

Growing up in urban India, surrounded by the social and environmental challenges of a rapidly changing world, I developed a deep belief in justice, sustainability, and the power of systems change. That belief has shaped my 20+ year journey working with incredible organizations across the UK and India—where I’ve been lucky to combine my love for storytelling, partnership building, strategy, and purpose.  

I’m especially driven by the urgency of ecological overshoot—the reality that we’re consuming more than the planet can regenerate—and what that means for our future. My work is grounded in a belief that we must radically shift how we fund, organize, and imagine change, centering planetary boundaries, justice, and long-term resilience in everything we do.

I advise organisations like the Global Battery Alliance at present and have served as Fundraising Director for the Global Commons Alliance, helping mobilize support to protect the Earth’s life-support systems and advance ambitious action on climate and nature. Before this, I led fundraising at Global Witness, raising $15 million annually to support vital work on fossil fuel divestment, defending environmental defenders, and safeguarding civic space.

Along the way, I’ve worked with groups like the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Leaders’ Quest, Common Purpose, and EdelGive Foundation, building coalitions and championing grassroots leadership. I currently consult with organizations like the Global Battery Alliance and serve on the boards of the Good Law Project, and formerly VSO International, and Empower- the Emerging Markets Foundation.

Outside of work, I’m writing a biographical novel about an Indian woman activist from the 1970s—a personal project that reminds me of the strength and clarity needed to fight for what matters.
